When Declan Cassidy, producer and director, of the three part mini-series “A Finglas Story” phoned, asking Jim Tunney to be involved in the next series, we as a team were thrilled. Tunney Opticians first opened its doors in Finglas Village back in 1982. Over those 40 years, Jim Tunney, owner/manager has witnessed our small urban village, grow into the multi cultural, dynamic community that it is today. Through highs and lows, the Finglas community banded together over the years, in support of local businesses and each other.
Recently, our Tidy Towns team, were awarded the 32 all County, all Island, Urban Village Tidy Towns award 2021. Recognising the many volunteers who come out each week to care for and maintain our village.
Declan Cassidy a Finglas native and multi award winning producer, director and writer was the founder of The Finglas Courier newspaper, which he established back in 1988, and was the first media outlet reporting on all the positive things happening within our community. At that time, mainstream media only reported on the criminal activity that beset Finglas and many other working class communities. His monthly reporting quickly became a weekly forum supported by many local businesses including Tunney Opticians.
Throughout his vast career, Declan has stayed true to his roots and his avid support of Finglas and our tight knit community. His new project “A Finglas Story” is told through the eyes of those who lived through the changes and challenges experienced over the years. Tunney Opticians are proud to have witnessed many of those triumphs and to have been part of this community. Forty years later, we are still your community optician.
We would like to thank Declan and his fantastic crew for including Jim and Tunney Opticians in the documentary. It was a pleasure to work with such a professional and experienced team. We can’t wait for the final product!
